“I am very happy to announce that the Province of Cavite is about to embark in a massive rollout of a FREE WiFi system that shall cover of the residential areas,” Remulla posted on his Facebook page.
“During the ongoing quarantine period, the #CaviteFreeWiFi shall be purely utilized for the educational or academic requirements of public school or DepEd students which they can access using their ID number,” he added. The internet infrastructure can also be used for research, online retail, and knowledge generation once the economy overcomes its present challenges.
Remulla told members of the media that he will soon sign a contract with a telecommunications company to realize the project. Last month, the governor expressed disappointment over DepEd’s modular plan which will cost P5 billion to educate Cavite’s 600,000 students. It’s a hefty price tag for a province with a 2020 budget of P4.7 billion. He also lamented then the survey results showing that only 10 percent of students have full-time access to a tablet, laptop, or desktop computer at home.
