Olivia Biggart got A grades in her prelims but her final results did not reflect what teachers recommended
The government U-turn follows an outcry from pupils after moderation by the SQA led to 125,000 estimated results being downgraded. Justified after a feeble attempt by government to downgrade by economic “class” time for the working class to wake up!!!
If SQA downgrades are to be upgraded then surely SQA upgrades should be downgraded to teacher estimates Can’t have it both ways.
Jobs are given, not on exam results solely, but take into account personality, confidence and general demeanour. I left grammer school at 16 with reasonable 'O' levels and pursued a very successful career in finance. My personality and attitude to work was my forte.

I’d have been stuffed... one of my teachers didn’t believe my exam results and said to a friend ‘I don’t know how he did so well’ Maybe due to the fact many teachers have no idea about their pupils and live in their own bubbles. The idea of teacher assessment is scary to me.
I’m sure she is as well as the other 5000 who did as well who will be applying for the same things.
It’s unfair on students in the rest of the UK who if downgraded will have to do are sit in October.
UK the only country in the world to reward mediocrity.
Many years ago a system of 'continuous assessment' was instituted combined with exam results. Some of us did well during term but were poor at exams, and vice versa That system was designed to be fairer to all. So why are today's schoolchildren moaning?

I really don't like these cynical comments. I know what it's like to have your dreams quashed before you even get started. Now it's up to the students to live up to their new marks and I wish them all well.
Hopefully there’s an about turn on the ridiculousness of the AS level grades and probably the IGCSE ones too- how can kids be graded on four months’ work in school and an improperly set mock exam they weren’t aware would define their futures ?
