The Independent Education Union is calling on the government to recommend year 11 and 12 students wear masks at school, saying older teens behaved like adults yet were unable to socially distance in class | JordsBaker

The Independent Education Union is calling on the government to recommend year 11 and 12 students wear masks at school, saying older teens behaved like adults yet were unable to socially distance in class. But principals say the recommendation would be difficult to enforce, while a leading epidemiologist said NSW did not have enough COVID-19 cases for the benefits of masks in schools to outweigh the downsides, such as interfering with students' ability to hear and speak.

The union's NSW branch secretary Mark Northam said the independent school sector needed clear and decisive advice, “in particular making an explicit recommendation for staff and senior students to wear masks within school settings,” he said. The head of the Secondary Principals' Council, Craig Petersen, who represents public school principals in NSW, said cloth masks had to be washed in hot water every day, and disposable masks had to be thrown out.

JordsBaker Families have children at more than one school, who constantly mingle with students from other schools through activities like sport, music etc, on buses/ trains and shopping centres. Makes sense for all students to wear masks.

JordsBaker My 16 year old reports that wearing a mask is annoying but not effecting his learning and that he would much prefer the annoyance over the other life changing consequences of catching or passing on COVID-19 to other family members.

JordsBaker NSWCHO 's point that senior students are likely to transmit virus like adults is only another lie to cover the previous lies. Many studies have proved that all children are the same as adults re Covid19 and many other diseases. It's common sense. COVID
