Abuse victim accused of 'grooming' teacher awarded £1m

A man sexually abused as a schoolboy has been awarded more than £1m from his teacher's employer.

Despite pleading guilty to criminal charges, Adams argued in a civil case 13-year-old"James" had groomed him. Meanwhile, Adams thrived, becoming deputy head of Highgate Wood and even having a wing of the school named after him.And in 2014, Adams pleaded guilty to charges of assault and buggery against James.By this point, James was so mentally damaged by the legacy of what had happened he could no longer work. And James had to spend two days in the witness box.

left the school for a brief period, aged 15, in 1982, but continued to go on sailing trips with pupils there - because he had consented to sex with AdamsAnd the assaults could not have caused any long-term trauma because they had not been violent.'Under attack'"I felt tremendously let down by Haringey.

I think this headline would be better written in a different way but it is kind of highlighting what the council were prepared to do to deny this man compensation

not enough!! higher up the predator chain we must go, right to the very top.

‘Council who dismissed effects of abuse must pay £1m damages’ would be more accurate and reflect the national news interest in this story.

Makes you question all Harigey’s safeguarding principals if they tried to claim no harm was caused.

This headline is absolutely unacceptable. Please change it immediately. Abused children never ‘groom’ their abusers.

Haringey Council...same clowns who made catastrophic mistakes leading to the murder of 'Baby P' Something very wrong going on there...

Where is BBC’s ‘state-affiliated media’ designation

Something totally wrong with our BBC news headlines, on such a sensitive matter.

Come on, you can do better than this headline.

This isn’t the best choice of headline. It really isn’t.

A great result at last some justice for a victim of child abuse. This one of the first I've seen in a long time. But he had to take his own civil case. This can be expensive and really unnecessary.

Do you read your own fucking headlines? What the fuck is wrong with you

Eh?

A million pounds. How is such a huge amount determined?
