“We cannot afford to get further behind.” How a big-city school superintendent makes heart-wrenching decisions about reopening classes amid Covid-19.

DALLAS—Schools superintendent Michael Hinojosa stepped on a land mine while laying plans to reopen his 153,000-student district amid the coronavirus pandemic. He wanted teachers instructing from classrooms, even if students were at home, to make sure they stayed focused.

“It is better for us if they come in,” Dr. Hinojosa said from his office at Dallas Independent School District headquarters late last month. “It is unprofessional if kids are yelling in the background, dogs barking and husbands walking back and forth.”

Open. There, decision made for you😃

Maybe. Just maybe. The safety, the health, and the lives of the children and teachers are more important than being able to a pass test on a pre-COVID-19 schedule. There is no deadline to learn anything. There is no magical place where here, only here, they can learn.

Says the man, looking at his watch on the deck of the Titanic. That fool will see his school close within the first two weeks, as students & teachers become infected, requiring quarantine and worse, hospitalization and coffins. Then cry about being behind at the funerals.

All schools will reopen on Nov 4

Of course we can. You weigh the possible deaths to teachers and family members and children themselves and you say - the world needs to stop for this little while. That’s how you do it.

98 percent survival...whats the big deal? It's like 99.999 for children. The virus isn't going away so shut down for eternity or open up.

God bless. On a great day that system is a disaster.

If only we had a device..... say with a screen and hooked to a worldwide interconnected network of information & distribution. We could put a camera and a microphone on it... Someone should come up with a gadget like that.

Somehow I think this guys six-figure salary makes the opening a little easier for him.

While Devos sits in her mansion in Michigan, under $25 of taxpayer security. Let the eat cake turned into let them go to school and get sick.

Nothing about PSYOP-19 is easy. Wake up people. The most important chart ever re: C19 exposing this horrific fraud:

He should fear losing lives instead

How about a National Work Program that PAYS people CASH DAILY for road, beach, garbage, park clean up until a National Program for work is put in place? That's better than giving a stimulus check! Get off your asses Mr. President & Congress as there's NO $$$ for feeding the kids!

Before reading the article, students win with school reopenings. Everyone else is a distance 2nd, 3rd, etc....

Tighten your jock,,,you cant win do your best😳

I’ll make it easy. It’ll be safe to open schools after there’s a vaccine. Was that so difficult?

Sweden was neutral to Hitler. They are going to school. We helped defeat Hitler. Now we hide in our houses.

For kid’s wellbeing, they need to go back to school. Students and parents can have the option to opt for online or in-person classes but they must have the OPTION. What if the inability to return to school forces a parent to lose their job/insurance? That’s a REAL health crisis.

Schools need to open, many kids are being abused. It's bad for them to stay home for this long!! President Trump is not worried because younger people do very well while dealing with covid.

These whiny bitches need to step up their game .

If I was a parent there is absolutely no way I would send my child to school in this plague. With high speed Internet and children very comatent on computers today it is far far better just to learn online and be safe.

LiberalismIsTheRealPandemic

Kids have a greater chance of being hit by lightning than dying from Covid. End the political child abuse and open schools now. Canada and Europe are full open.

Don't send kids to die.

I’ll solve it for this guy. If you’re over 60 you get to teach from home. But everyone else open up like normal

Further behind who? Everyone is at the same position...

Rest assured that the Chinese vaccine will soon be ready for production.

Why is it heart wrenching? Because they live in a Red State. They would choose (my opinion) to keep the kids home, because they KNOW what the results will be. They are scared to death they may be the result of a child or adult dying from Covid-19.

Heart wrenching Consider it a gap year and don't send kids back to die?

later another interview in october where he says he is sorry to have rushed into it. ...

He is correct. Other essential workers had to go into their respective jobs, why shouldn’t teachers. If school districts figure out that they don’t need teachers Google or other companies can provide the same service they will be unemployeed

Heart-wrenching over a hoax virus? Drama Queens.
