SIBU: A teacher has lost RM93,070 in a face mask scam, says Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit.

"She wanted to buy 200 boxes, where each box has 50 masks. The total price was RM50,000," he said.

ACP Stanley said that she then made 13 transfers totalling RM50,000 from July 29 to August 1 to several account numbers provided by the suspect, adding that she was then asked on August 3 to pay RM16,360 for tax and RM8,560 for delivery charges. He added that the teacher made the payments, and said that the suspect then asked her to pay RM17,800 for tax and RM2,500 for a deposit on Tuesday .

ACP Stanley said that she made both payments and was then told that the items would arrive at her home on Thursday . He said the victim then realised she had been cheated when she did not receive the face masks, adding that she has made several calls to the suspect, but failed to receive a responseArticle type: metered
