Economics should be taught, and tested, at all schools and treated with the importance of English and maths. That way we can have a more money-savvy and entrepreneurial society, writes Chris Blackhurst

What economics gave me was a grounding in how money, business and markets function. I was taught about profit and loss, demand and supply, interest rates, assets and liabilities, debit and credit.

Great idea. However, the economics taught at Eton as opposed to BleakTown Comprehensive would need to be vastly different. One curriculum would be based on offshore corporate tax law and international banking, the other on payday loans and the intricate workings of pawn shops.

not if it's the nonsense mainstream!

Which economics? Whose economics? What ideological version?

Home economics should be brought back and made compulsory so children can learn to cook and manage a household on a budget. Less wastage and possibly a more healthier and confident society.

Excellent idea. Children should be taught about compounded interest, corporate banking and how they will be financially shafted when they are adults.

Teach them about godliness and the sins that will tempt and trip them up if they do not focus on seeking the wisdom and grace from above. Better to have a dry crust than much feasting with strife. Give us today our daily bread...etc. The love of money leads many into crime.

But not from the neo-classical school. We already have an issue that most economists have an incorrect understanding of economics without spreading the rot further

If taught properly and including the pros and cons, the pros and cons of the human/environmental cost/affect. Explore different theories without being conditioned. And without an emphasis on economy over people/environment. Also a genuine history of economics

ECONOMICS

The teaching of Economics might counter the socialist rhetoric so many children are subjected to.

The flaw with economics in this country is that it only teaches a narrow view about how money should be used, it is a very political subject. A KS3&4 version would have to be broadly written.

True we can not afford more sitaramans

If I had £1 for every time I read that something should be compulsory in schools, I’d be an economist. A rich one. And a school day would be 20 hours long. Let’s raise numerate, literate, culturally aware critical thinkers. Some might fall in love with economics on the way

Yes.

But whose economics?

Actually, it can cause harm. Because the curriculum in many countries is already overcrowded.

Thank Elon
