"After receiving guidance from state and public health officials and consulting with football student-athletes, we've decided that we will not compete on the gridiron this season," UConn Director of Athletics David Benedict said."The safety challenges created by COVID-19 place our football student-athletes at an unacceptable level of risk."

Good. Student athletes are already exploited enough for the revenue they bring in. They shouldn't have to endanger their health on top of that.

Maybe it has something to do w the fact that there r w/o a conference for first time this year and all other leagues r playing conference only schedules & Uconn couldn’t play a full schedule if they to.

Shouldn't colleges focus on education and not sports?

We do those under 50 a disservice the way this is pursued.

They prolly shoulda just cancelled the football program awhile back, non-covid related, ya dig

Makes sense. They’re not getting paid to play anyway. Not worth the risk

They don't have a conference or anyone to play in football.....so there's that.

The SEC teams are only playing each other, they might have to call it the covid conference before all this is over.

Their players will live to play another day.

How silly. These athletes have little to worry about. They are much more likely to be hit by a bus---than get sick from Covid 19.

Life isn’t worth it and can anyone be honest don’t play it’s getting worse

This is sad but the right thing to do. Hopefully other programs follow their lead.
