Wolverhampton City Council said it maintains almost 500 miles of roads and ‘mistakes do happen’, adding that they would be arranging for the markings’ swift removal.

‘It’s hilarious but at the same time baffling and infuriating. Do these people have no common sense at all.’ Dad-of-one Ben Fletcher, 29, added: ‘It’s a complete waste of taxpayer’s money. I was lost for words when I noticed it. Everyone was completely gobsmacked. A Wolverhampton City Council spokesman said: ‘We maintain around 800 kilometres of roads across the city, and occasionally mistakes do happen.
