As pressure mounts for teachers to return to their classrooms this fall, concerns about the pandemic are pushing many toward alternatives, including career changes, as some mobilize to delay school reopenings in areas hardest hit by the coronavirus.

to block the reopening of schools in Florida, where state officials have ordered school districts to reopen campuses as an option unless local health officials deem that to be unsafe. Educators in several cities have called for the school year to start with remote instruction.

In a Michigan Education Association survey last month of 15,000-plus educators, 23% indicated they were considering retiring early or leaving the profession because of COVID-19, and 7% said they were actually doing so, according to the union. But school reopening plans could be complicated by any widespread departures of those who are worried about the virus, or who are not eager to return for more distance learning.

“Everything that I believe in, I can’t do,” Morris said. “It’s all going to be paper and pencil. And that’s when I sat down and I thought, ‘What am I doing?’”Retiring now isn’t financially feasible for science teacher Deb Waddell, 61, who misses her students but worries because she and her immediate family have health conditions that make them higher risk. She’s hoping to get a virtual teaching role for her rural district in Columbia, Kentucky.

Hopefully this will be a wake up call how many of the liberal teachers do such a poor job parents who don’t have degrees in the subject matter can do a better job. Maybe conservatives will all get together and create a FREE K-12 curriculum that will make teachers obsolete.

Teachers are a joke, stop paying them

You choose your own career path and sometimes life is hard.

And who wants to be this parent?

Quit. Give me my property tax back.

So these fuckers watch nurses, doctors, orderlies etc directly face people actually infected daily and treat them? Now, after collecting a wage for the interim, they’re asked to teach a group of people likely not infected i.e. their job, they’re leaving teaching. Pathetic

Why are they above all the other people that worked because it was deemed necessary. I guess if you have a college education you are so more valuable. Oh, I forgot you want to teach this generation Marxism. Just as your professors did to you.

How many students must die More likely than not, ZERO will.

NEWS FLASH : THE PANDEMIC ENDED MONTHS AGO! TryAndKeepUp

By nature children are most resilient in body and mind among our population and we're talking about a virus strain that is probably as old as mankind as well it's all politics

Hopefully the Marxist teachers!

GOOD! Those are the teachers that NEEDS to have been LONG gone.. poisoning the minds of our youth & passing through illiterates into our society

Scamdemic

They are lazy, like anyone else sitting home and getting paid is great but there comes a time when you have to work to get payday

Maybe they can broach the subject while they’re attending the next thousand strong protest. Since that’s where their students there. Better yet, maybe they can teach while there. “If brick “A” travels speed “X”, and brick “B” travels at speed “Y”, which cop will they injure 1st?”

Here come all the people who never taught and barely made it through high school with all their ill informed opinions sucking at the teet of thier racist president. In 3..2...1

America already has a severe teacher shortage. With thousands quitting now, and if thousands more die in states that do what Trump140kdead and the fascist GOP want, who will be left to teach the surviving children.

Stop paying them. If schools aren’t open. Easy. And reduce property taxes! Win win.

The first vaccines should go to high risk population such as the elderly, those with diabetes, cancer, auto immune disease, etc , children, and teachers. But first, teachers and parents have to not be anti vaccination.

Yet so many of them seem to be offering tutoring/education services for the coming school year, they don’t want to teach in schools, but don’t mind 10-15 kids coming to their homes or going to someone else’s....

Teachers should quit and start in-person home-teaching businesses.

For far too many, it is easier, and even preferable, to sit on their abnormally fat asses collecting generous Socialist Payments rather than go back to actual work. Those people never gave a shit about the children in the first place.

Schools may be forced into distance learning because they lack the staff if they try and go back. This isn't up to the administration.

Good maybe bring in some actual teachers

If teachers don’t want to teach kids at school, they ought to find another job or retire.

Grocery workers, medical staff, tradesman, first responders, janitors, and other essential workers are shedding crocodile tears....what is more essential than a quality education? Give me a freaking break.

Many of them could switch over to health care.

Defund these teachers

Good. If they don’t want to work they should choose another career

Thank me later
