'I can't believe because my father decided to serve Queen and country, I'm going through this' Remi, Sharon and Leonardo grew up thinking they were British but later discovered that legally they are not - they now fight for the right to live in the UK

Remi, Sharon and Leonardo are all struggling to secure their lives in the UK after learning they're not legally British.

Changes to UK law over the past 40 years have meant the legal status of thousands of people is unknown, and that some British-born people can be threatened with deportation and left unable to work. The BBC's Fahima Abdulrahman has been speaking to people who say they are British but are fighting for proof.

This is so wrong, when we have migrants flooding in to the Country from France who will end up staying. Sometimes these officials need to use some common sense.

BBCPolitics Should consult with Boris Johnson, he was born in New York; probably why he takes orders from Trump.

As you can see by comments. People here have had enough of our Nation being attacked, called racists and white brittish people abused. Sort out you’re paper work and stop blaming the UK.

Simple solution go France get in the many boats of free loading immigrants we allow in to stay and support then they can stay get house benefits never work

who decided he had to wear a mask and why

Anyone whom fights for this country should mandatory be given citizenship. Anyone arriving by boat should be deported

Two-faced UK. They talk nice but they stab deep. Use you then dump you. If they can’t get what they want they stir it up & ruin it for everyone else. I wonder if it’s the long term effect of the weather.

Good to hear UK is not handing out Passports like candy. As an immigrant to the UK, my family and I had to work hard to get a passport - manage the system and respect the rules. If it is not hard to get, you will not respect it.

Good enough to fight and die for the motherland but not good enough to live here!!!

The BBC love a criminal if they are BAME.

Of course they have the right to live here. What jobs-worth idiot is stopping them?

Race baiting. Truly disgusting. It’s nothing to do with race. You’re illegal are not. I moved country, completed all the paperwork and now I’m legal. If your not, your a parasite.

Did the Home Office tell them to break the law? Did the Home Office tell their parents not to sort it out earlier? Isn't it clear WHO are actually responsible for the situation? I am an immigrant and I know the pain AND I don't want to live among criminals.

Whose responsibility is it to check ones own status and nationality ? Mine or somebody else’s ?

This is an old school appeal to the virtue of being on the side of the defence is it not? The government will be forced to find them gainful employment & any future wrong doing by them will be the fault of the government. Law is a tricky business I'd say.

BBCPolitics The link shows nothing. Just that they are being interviewed with regards to proving they are British? I had to take additional identification to get my drivers licence because my birth certificate is Maltese due to Father in the Navy. It happens.

We should simplify it. If you say you are British, you are British. Nationality is about allegiance, not accidents of birth.

I'm a little confused here, if you are the child of migrants (As I am) why didn't you check your status, and if negative, apply for citizenship. Playing the 'R' card to the BBC in which to try and excuse your own bad admin is so f-ing lame.

Love the BBC. Only be happy when their is a civil war 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️ defundthebbc

BBCPolitics Too many fraudulent, run away from their country is still illegally without passport & unknown their hidden criminal convictions. They are still not British until truly true identity becomes British citizenships.

very sad but very well spoken by ColinYeo1

🙄

If they nip on the ferry to France and come back on a dinghy, they'll be a lot better off than they are now. pritipatel

This is is sad. I hope the British home office fix this issue not only for them but for others in this situation

As the BBC ran out of characters, I'll help out by mentioning the criminal charges and prison sentences that I know they desperately wanted to include to give the full picture.

I am so sorry. This is a disgrace.

All the people in this video are criminals who have served sentences, zero sympathy.

Pretty poor reporting. For a start the nurse is highly likely to have been struck of beciase she was imprisoned. The others - well poor parenting

BBCPolitics Wow ....NOT an Excellent NEWS !!!

their parents didn’t sort out their passports.... that’s the problem

You have a mini Trump over there I guess. Don't let him pit put on three inch lifts or he just might become a full blown fascist.

This mask is a bad kind.

BBCPolitics Cancel the TV license folks.

Look on the brightside, you could live in china, and get put in camps... atleast if you get deported you can try and get back in, if at first you don't succeed try and try again, famous saying used by Shamima Begum's

This windrushscandal doesn't make sense you have people that have lived in United Kingdom for decades yet being asked to leave and people who have come from the European Union being asked to stay. Government need to sort it out once and for all.
