As the schooling dilemma continues to daunt millions of parents, some with the means to front the steep costs are hiring private educators and tutors, an option experts say few can afford and will likely widen an already glaring education gap.

Brian Richardson, who is the Midwest regional director of the nonprofit civil rights organization Lambda Legal, started looking into a tutoring"pod" with one or two other families to supplement his rising first grader, who attends a Chicago public school.

"A lot of teachers are talking about how, if their school requires them to be in person, they might not return," she said."I do see more and more teachers saying they won't return if they don't feel safe." Even a pod arrangement is financially out of reach for many parents, who find themselves forced to follow along however their children's schools choose to operate, regardless of how optimal it may be to the children's learning process. The abrupt transition to online learning in March, coupled with a listless summer, caused many kids to fall behind.

Private tutors will further widen the gap in education, and those who are unable to afford them will continue to lag behind more advantaged peers, said Pedro Noguera, a professor of education at the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at UCLA.

How about you take the money from the public schools that won't be opening and give it directly to the families with students ... then they will be able to afford private educators and/or tutors.

That's why it's important for us as citizens to come together and fight this problem We need solution not discussion of problems

Thank Dr Fakie..oops Fauci

We are looking into pulling our kids out of public school. Teachers are going to have to find a new profession. Parents have realized they don’t need public indoctrination centers and are perfectly capable of utilizing the new world of digital classrooms 🇺🇸👍🏻

You have to go to college for 4 years to teach P.E. I think the bubble might be bursting

Absent teachers hurt the low income families, and at risk kids. Reopen schools.

Pool resources with other parents. Setup play dates and see if people can share subjects for multiple kids. You know, like homeschool parents have been doing for literally hundreds of years.

LEAVE GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS ALREADY! They have been a joke for decades.

Costs are not steep. Easy to do if you join a parent teaching network.

Attach educational funding to the child

So then refund the parents their property tax and let them go pay these private educators and tutors. If the school districts can’t/won’t educate our kids then give us our money back so we can do it.

Vouchers Public school s non-essential

Why not open the schools?

Outstanding. Ride the wave and watch this become affordable. Yet ANOTHER institution literally destroyed by The Left.

A shame that the teachers refuse to show the same courage that grocery and pharmacy workers have during a pandemic.

Teachers Unions hate poor minority kids. There is no other way to explain this.

Everyone would be able to afford it if they controlled the tax money going to teachers taking the year off.

Families should receive education dollars so they can decide where to send their children to school. The more options families have the better the educational outcome.

It's their CHOICE to hire private educators. They don't have to do that, they choose to.

Millions of workers go to work every day. This is nuts. School vouchers now!

This is GARBAGE... you can HOMESCHOOL without 'steep costs'. You do NOT need private educators or tutors [although you absolutely can choose to use them bc you are in charge]. THIS IS COMMIE PROPAGANDA you're welcome

If public school teachers won’t teach we will all find a way.

Anything that gets kids out of the liberal indoctrination called government school is a good thing.

Yup. You keep schools closed and it adversely affects poor and disadvantaged families more than those with money and/or options. Pediatricians say: Open the schools, use precautions. Allow for some to be distance learners.

Weird my local grocery store can stay open and work, but these spoiled loser teachers can't. They say they can't go back to work until police is defunded what the hell does that have to do with teaching

Hey , is what is. Dems should be on board as they rely on segregation and cultivating the illusion of victimization of minorities in order to put their righteous indignation capes on and fly in to the 'rescue' in exchange for their blanket votes to satisfy their lust for power.

Everyone file your lawsuit for free with the ACLJ to get your tax money to pay for a private school that really cares. Class action lawsuit a coming

And more power to them! Each parent has an obligation to provide for their children as best they can. If they are smart, they'll never look back toward government-run schooling!

You can't close schools then complain when some parents take the initiative to educate their kids.

How can that happen! Thought the Government schools and colleges were providing a stellar indoctrination of our kids

there is already a glaring education gap. People are graduating summa cum laude from Harvard and Yale as academic illiterates. In CA, teaching candidates, recent grads, have to take a year long teaching course which is remedial ed, so they can teach elementary school academics

This is rich.Leftists argue schools need to be closed, then hire private teachers whiles poor minorities are left behind. Same with defunding the police, which results in unsafe minority neighborhoods whiles they hire private guards.See the trend? RefundThePolice AllLivesMatter

Well, as long as 'experts' say so.

So teachers unions are going to strike?

Give me my tax money so I can pay my kids private schools who want to open up, fuck public school teachers that don’t give a fuck about kids education and play politics, see if your unions care when your asses are laid off.

Teacher's unions are ensuring the poorest are left behind by refusing to do what millions of other people are already doing - working.

And this is a problem how?

The definition of privledge. So sad for the millions of parents who need to be at work everyday and can’t afford this option.

Wake up folks. The Demorats want to keep you ignorant.

Muy cierto

GerrybombS But if the wealthy chose private education won't that free up resources for those that stay? And if JoeBiden increases educ spending it'll be more proportionately spread, right?

I guess if the parents can figure out how to use a computerized they can’t figure out how to Home school their own children. There’s toomuch availability technical for this to be an actual dilemma

Science shows little risk in opening. The Left is putting poor kids further behind.

It is lazy teachers who are in a dilemma, parents are very clear...

Gloria adios!

People go to work at Walmart but teachers won’t work in schools. Sad!

The virus has exposed as a nation of broken toys, run by misfit toys.

It’s not a dilemma, schools should be open period
