A new group, Our Time, is trying to help answer that final question. Launching on July 9, in partnership with Our Revolution, a grassroots political organization that was inspired by Sanders’s 2016 presidential bid, Our Time will mobilize young voters on high school and college campuses nationwide to continue advocating for progressive causes.
According to Shana Gallagher, national student organizing director for the 2020 Sanders campaign, they had “by far” the most campus-based student organizing programs, with over a thousand “Students for Bernie” chapters across all 50 states and Puerto Rico. When the Sanders campaign ended, it left thousands of students without “a political home,” says Paco Fabian, director of campaigns at Our Revolution. Gallagher says that, even among students who were not involved in the 2016 campaign, Our Revolution was an obvious standard-bearer to continue organizing for policies that underpin Sanders’s political legacy.
