U.S. says foreign students may have to leave if their school goes online-only

The new rules are a blow to many international students who will be forced to either leave the country or scramble to transfer to a new school to keep their legal status. Some who exit the country will face hurdles to learning online, such as varying time zones.

The new rules"should not affect students participating in OPT," an agency spokesperson said, referring to the optional practical training program that allows F-1 students who have finished their study to work in the U.S. for up to one year in a relevant field. Because they generally receive little or no financial aid, foreign students tend to pour large amounts of money into U.S. higher education institutions, which subsidizes Americans.

And how the hell do they get home when countries have banned people from the US. Sounds like another whacked out ploy by the corrupt Trump administration!

You can go school online from anywhere no matter the country

Isn't the idea of online learning that you can learn from anywhere? Take your course from home. Millions of people do. I can take courses from universities around the world. So can everyone else.

This is very unfair the students. The options provided are very unfeasiable. Schools may not even provide in-person classes!

There's some parents of younger international students who come to this country and enroll at 'fake' colleges or programs, just to have a visa so that they can stay with their kids (who are attending more legitimate programs/schools). The whole situation is so corrupt.

This will decimate most schools income as foreign students pay insurmountable amounts more than us students.

This is terrible, absolutely terrible. There are so many international students that enrich my child’s college experience. I don’t understand the need for this.

Here's the problem... Most colleges make money from International Students. They pay full-price if they're not a residence. If the students leave, they'll go to other countries. We will have a hard time getting them back.
