BREAKING: Victorian families are being urged to stay home for the school holidays, as COVID-19 cases surge. Parents should limit children's movements and social interactions, the CHO says.

Six schools and two childcare centres in Melbourne have been linked to 75 reported new cases of COVID-19, after students became infected through contact with family members .

Health Minister Jenny Mikakos said the schools had already closed for the holidays and were being deep cleaned."Those schools are already closed and those schools will be thoroughly cleaned and there will be contact tracing involving both staff and students," Ms Mikakos said. Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton warned that he expected to see numbers continue to rise in the next few days, but said that the start of school holidays provided a welcome chance to limit community transmissions.

Yea a bit late.... they’ve flooded our regional areas 🤷🏼‍♀️

Victorians need to respond maturely and with responsibility.

You can thank Morrison, the pressure from the liberal party and businesses in Victoria that pushed and pushed and pushed for the economy to open up. These businesses are complicit, along with the liberal party in every case diagnosed. ScottMorrisonMP auspol

VicGovDHHS JennyMikakos DanielAndrewsMP VictorianCHO Today's 75 cases is Vic's 4th highest & Australia's 27th highest tally in 158 days NSW had 16 days 75 cases btw 21/03 & 5/04 Qld peaked at 78 cases on 24/3 Other States never got close! WA 53 SA 38 Tas 17 NT 5 ACT 13

Unless of course we want to march with the Marxists.

Are protesters being urged to stay home, or will Dan encourage them to head out again?

WHAT A SCREW UP, WHAT THE HELL WAS THE STATE GOVT AND IT USELESS HEALTH MINISTERS DOING. FOR GOODNESS SAKES!!!

WHY DONT YOU EVER TALK ABOUT HOW MANY ARE IN HOSPITAL? 70 POSITIVE TESTS WITH NO SYMPTOMS IS NOT THE SAME AS 70 IN HOSPITAL!!!

The Italian outbreak took off in the snowfields of Italy. Winter + crowds = outbreak. No excuse people. We have precedence.

But protests are cool, yea?

Personally responsibility has failed so let’s try more personal responsibility? It is clear that those contributing to the spread have not been following guidelines so why do we expect that to change now?

Good luck with that, you’re fine to go to school but no where else!

If we’ve learned anything from Coronavirus it’s that urging people to do the right thing doesn’t work

Seriously, really should’ve have mentioned this last week. Stop being reactive.

Umm I think there is a % of the population that have proven to everyone that they are not going to follow recommendations or advice. If Vic is serious about getting on top of this it needs to be enforced

Social distance for holidays but return to school with 1100 people including students and staff - okay 🤦🏻‍♂️

Get stuffed

How many staff working in HQ, due to poor management, poor hygiene, poor infection control & poor training contracted covid & then spread it to their close contacts VictorianCHO? DHHS were advised is May of concerns about infection control

But kids down get Covid 19? Right?

Yarrawonga is full of Melbourne visitors 😬

The nutters want the army called in. It's the police's job to shoot us for violations. I believe that have a bit f revenue to make up

Excluding protests, gang attacks, riots, home and business invasions and car jackings.

What are we afraid of. In Au its .0004% death rate. We've got this. Our healthcare system is worldclass.

How many have needed hospitalising? Nobody ever talks about that

Why is this guy always 2 steps behind. Mid way through last week as numbers started to climb he should have said don’t travel for school holidays. Maybe as Brendan Murphy has stepped down he can be asked to come and run this shit show for a few weeks till it’s under control

Too late people are holidaying already

But we're all good to have massive family Iftar dinners, yeah?

Too late, my holiday town is buzzing. Just hope they are from the right suburbs as we have an older population

Good luck with getting people to do that. I think the horse has bolted on the reliance on the general population to “do the right thing”. It’s the old “doesn’t apply to me” attitude now.

maztrev18 Glad I’m in WA Jen2310

It's legit family gatherings and not BLM protestors. They all wore masks. Do you think the fucking Gianfaccia family worse masks at their bloody Donvale Sunday pasta fest?

I'm guessing lots have left Melbourne for vacation already!

Please refer to Melburnians and not Victorians as a whole. Those of us in north-west Victoria would prefer not to be lumped in with the rest.

Ah yes. All the RWNJ's still blaming the protests 🙄🙄

Too late... holidaying Victorians everywhere across NSW by now.

better ban golf...protest are still cool!

Are we being “urged” to stay at home in the same way DictatorDan “urged” protesters not to attend BLM?😉😉😉
