As the month-long enrollment period nears its end, the Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday said that the registration for the upcoming School Year (SY) 2020-2021 will be among the topics to be discussed in an executive committee (ExeCom) meeting scheduled this week.

“We will have an ExeCom this week and part of updates is enrollment,” DepEd Undersecretary and Spokesperson Atty. Nepomuceno Malaluan told the Manila Bulletin when asked if the agency is taking into consideration the possible extension of the enrollment period set to end by June 30.

Since June 1, DepEd has implemented remote enrollment through alternative means of communication that do not require physically reporting to school, such as text, call, email, and online messaging. After three weeks of conducting remote enrollment, current national enrollment turnout seems relatively low compared to actual turnout last year and in the previous years.

Malaluan noted that “slowdown is expected because of manual retrieval and encoding of drop box enrollment.” He explained that there is “slower reporting of drop-box enrollment” and that there is “longer time lag in reporting than remote enrollment.”
