'Universities should always seek to be fully aware of the risks of engaging with partners in China on dual-use technologies,' says Alex Joske, an analyst with the Australian Strategic Policy Institute. | EXCLUSIVE

alongside Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews as he announced a second agreement with China under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Mr Joske said the fact COMAC was part-owned by defence companies makes it "nearly impossible" to separate civilian and military applications of joint research. "I can't think of any realistic arrangement that would prevent dual-use collaboration with COMAC from ultimately being steered towards military uses."

The guidelines included a recommendation for universities to "incorporate into existing relevant frameworks foreign interference threats and vulnerabilities to the university's people, information and assets and outline mitigation measures" and that universities have "policies and procedures [that] outline the requirements for staff, students, contractors and honorary staff engaging in international collaboration, proportionate to the risk".

"Any collaborations with international entities are subject to strict national rules on research collaborations and Monash University has processes in place to ensure they comply with those rules.

Australian nature to Chinese 'not changed' as result of COVID-19 | Sky News AustraliaLiberal Senator Eric Abetz says “the vast majority of Australians are very welcoming of peoples from all around the world”, adding he doesn’t think there has been a rise in racism as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. \n\nThis comes after China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism warned its citizens to avoid travelling to Australia over a “significant increase” in racial discrimination against Chinese people.\n\nIn April, Chinese Ambassador to Australia Cheng Jingye warned pushing for an independent inquiry into the origin of the virus could prompt Chinese consumers to boycott Australian agriculture, education and tourism. \n\n“Our nature as Australian people has not changed as a result of COVID-19,” Mr Abetz told Sky News.\n\n“And all the Chinese that came to Australia before COVID-19 did so for one reason – the quality of the education, of life and the safety of their wellbeing.\n\n“One assumes that all those factors remain, and as a result, the Chinese authorities assertions are disappointing, but clearly unjustifiable.\n\n“And based I think on some immature payback in relation to our advocacy for an international inquiry into COVID-19.”\n 说你有你就有,没有也有 Mr Abetz do not assume anything for Australians. Your personal assumptions are way off. The Senators statement is spot on 'the vast majority of Australians are very welcoming of peoples from all around the world” they always have been. Fabricated propaganda spun by the CCPChina is just punishment that we dared ask for an independent inquiry
