BANGKOK (Xinhua): Thailand's Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation said on Saturday (June 6) that it is developing its own thermal face scanning device to save the costs.

The ministry said that till now Thailand has been dependent on imports of thermal face scanners as the Covid-19 pandemic is still prevalent.

Thailand's National Electronics and Computer Technology Center and the National Science and Technology Development Agency , both agencies under the ministry, said they are both in final stages in developing compact facial thermal scanning device, which will be capable of accurately scanning the temperatures of several people simultaneously.

The device, called the"u Therm-FaceSense," can measure the precise temperatures of several people at a time from a distance of 1.5 meters, even if they are wearing face masks. The portable device can easily be installed in hospitals, schools, shopping malls, train stations or any other locations. According to the NECTEC, the price will be affordable and will help reduce Thailand's dependency on similar imported products.

The device is being fine-tuned and 40 units are expected to be in use soon. - Xinhua/Asian News Network
