Almost six million students enrolled in public and private schools on June 1 to 5 for the 2020-21 academic year, the Department of Education said on Friday.
Region 4-A or CALABARZON topped the list with around 1,283,358 out of 5,995,962 students. The lowest was the Cordillera Administrative Region at 38,853. In a statement, the department said it advised schools to conduct alternative enrollment methods through text or social media under the ‘new normal’ in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It said public school teachers are allowed to work from home until June 30, except those authorized by regional directors to be part of the skeletal workforce in schools.Education Secretary Leonor Briones previously said online and blended learning are options for the incoming schoolyear. These include the use of the Learning Resources portal and DepEd Commons, TV, radio and modules and packets both in print and digital format, Briones said.
