A Canberra woman who hit her son with a slipper when he defied her instructions and lost some toys has won an appeal against her assault conviction.The boy's teacher found bruising on his back, leading to his mother's arrest and overnight incarcerationJustice Chrissa Loukas-Karlsson found the mother was remorseful, of prior good character and had undertaken rehabilitationThe boy explained what happened to him after the teacher examined his back and found bruising.

She said her son had taken some toys to school, and lost them, when he had been told to keep them at home. "It is not premeditated, it is not calculated, it is not ongoing, and it does not appear to have, in any way, been done for pleasure," she said."The appellant submitted that what was being put was that the child misbehaved; the appellant reached the end of her tether and snapped," Justice Loukas-Karlsson said.
