The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged the United Nations (UN) to request the Nigerian government and the National Assembly (NASS) to immediately reverse the budget cuts to education and healthcare. The body also wants the UN to stop the authorities from spending billions of Naira to renovate buildings within the federal legislature.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has urged the United Nations to request the Nigerian government and the National Assembly to immediately reverse the budget cuts to education and healthcare.

It cut the health budget to N25.5bn from N44.4bn and the UBE budget to N51.1bn from the reduced N111.7bn. SERAP noted that alternative policies and measures, such as reducing the costs of governance, including the excessive allowances for high-ranking public officials and the lawmakers, would have been a more appropriate solution to addressing budget deficits.

SERAPNigeria It is quiet shameful and ridiculous that we drag ourselves before international organizations to intervene in our misplaced priorities, failed & insincere leadership, corrupt government officials and a manipulated rule of law! AreWeNormal?

That's why this corona virus infection figure is a hoax!

This country is for politicians to enjoy. They'll start the sharing cos 2023 is what's on their mind and table. Education and health is for wananchi. Politicians' interests matter most. Once they're comfortable, everyone else is. Y'know, they rep u. Nonentity

Both the executive and legislature are highly irresponsible and insensitive to the needs and yelling of the people. Shame on them.

Am highly disappointed at d decision of d NAss, wen NAss knows dat d country is in a state of novel disease and dey r still courting d health sector budgetary allowance, why now why now.

You want to cut budget on the two major sectors in the economy but you are willing to spend a whopping sum of 27bn on NASS renovation, the roofs on nass are not leaking, the condition is not as bad as that of our schools and hospitals yet you still want to cut budget on the two?
