Some American students have chosen to remain on study-abroad programs during the pandemic. Parents and college administrators worry about their ability to help if the worst happens.

Greta Huber had known since middle school she wanted to study abroad in Germany. When she got to college and was accepted to a semester-long program in a German town with a castle, she bought her plane ticket eight months in advance.

So when her university told her to come home in March because of the pandemic, she didn’t deliberate. She said no. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that takes over a year of planning,” she said. “I couldn’t do this again.”

The health, safety, and security environment overseas is a mixed bag at the best of times. Parents and students make reasonable, risk-managed decisions. Kudos to those parents who allow this chance for growth and to the kids who are willing to take a risk!

I think there are a lots of things to follow them up. You can share the info and close contact would be helpful to avoid any unpredict happening such as tyhoon attack or others.

Maybe with trump in charge they feel better staying there?

They have access to better and far less expensive (free) healthcare if they do get sick. Why come home and cause your family more expense if you get sick.

When you are in your lates teens and early 20s you know you are immortal

If the students aren't worried about it, why should we?

Makes sense, Americans are much safer in Europe, especially in Germany like Greta. Maybe the safest place on earth. With accurate teamworking parties. Not with a know-nothing, bleach suggesting, blaming crisis manager who focus more on his next election than on citizens healh.

Maybe safer abroad.

Why should they come home, they’re having too much fun, and they don’t have to study.

Kashmiri family from Anantnag carry body of a pregnant lady on stretcher after the hospital refuse to provide ambulance & medical help. She died due to medical negligence. It's the death of humanity. Shame on the administration for such act!

Seems safer to stay away from the US

Yeah, those college administrators who haven't left the security of their ivory tower campuses surely know what's best for their students. Let's cram them in metal tubes with 200 other people for 5-8 hours and then scatter them to the wind across the country.

The worst is over. And the worst we were promised didn’t come close to happening

No worries, they are abroad while the worst is happening in US Covid_19

Many of them are in countries with far fewer angry people with guns. My advice is to ride it out abroad!

What is the worst happens ? This headlines is an emotional scare. Scared=controlled

Isn’t it strange how universities deny they have any responsibility for the behavior of students in their campus anymore but are now worrying about student choices half a world away?

Right decision. Going back to the US now and meeting Trump supporters protests? 😯
