Court battle looms over reopening of schools as institutes believe that Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga’s plans fall foul of the Constitution.

The Tebeila Institute for Leadership, Education, Governance and Training and the African Institute for Human Rights and Constitutional Litigation want to bring an urgent application in the Polokwane High Court, because they believe that Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga’s plans fall foul of the Constitution.

The institutions would, however, like to see matric pupils return to school and have asked the court that this should be allowed to happen in line with the department’s plans. Motshekga this week announced plans for Grade 7s and Grade 12s to return to school on June 1. The schools will then be thoroughly cleaned and then start planning for the implementation of social distancing measures before the pupils return.

“A teacher wrote me an emotional letter and told me it had taken her 10 years to fall pregnant – now she is too afraid to return to school,” said Manuel.

Their children are busy studying online. They are opposition to EDUCATION OF BLACK CHILDREN. THEY OPPOSE GOVERNMENT. Please stop abusing the courts. Donate the Legal fees to one school to improve infrastructure. You will be Blessed.

It makes a perfect sense. We prioritise lives first and then education. It’s a wrong move to gamble with Teachers and children’s lives. It’s about time! Until we reach the peak of this deadly virus , 🇿🇦STAY AT HOME🇿🇦PROTECT OUR HOSPITALS🇿🇦 & SAFE LIVES🇿🇦.

It always amazes me how some people project themselves as the 'know it all'! Challenging government for reopening schools is same as saying 'we know what is best for the country, not you'? There is no perfect timing, even after a year from now, there will still be challenges!

If they had first lifted holding Press briefings through Skype , together with journalists in one room , and opened the Parliament ,maybe reopening schools would have been justified.

It is shocking that: (a) 70% of SA pupils were not being reached through e-learning platforms; (b) only 10.4% of SA population have access to the internet in their homes; (c) about 60.1% of people have access to internet on their phones (StatsSA 2018 general household survey)

Judges & magistrates are busy under LockdownSA. President CyrilRamaphosa advised people above 60yrs to stay home, are some of them not supposed to stay home 🤔

She s out fighting that new virus, Codiv.

ANC and the constitution is like gastro and toilet paper. What happens when the ANC runs out of constitution to wipe its ass?

Can all useless cases be heard after lockdown

WTF what must everything end up in court? Some people in this country o just give up

The money being spent for all these court cases in times even the ones who are well off plead poverty 🤦‍♂️
