At a press briefing on Friday, President Trump said that the federal government has temporarily waived all interest on federally held student loans.

Trump said that Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos has directed federal lenders to allow borrowers to suspend their student loan payments without penalty. The suspension will be in effect for “at least the next 60 days,” Trump said, “and if we need more, we’ll extend that.” Trump also announced that the Department of Education will not enforce standardized testing requirements for students in elementary through high school.
