Taoiseach says school closures could be extended into April or May

On Thursday night, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said school closures could be extended into April or May to combat the spread of coronavirus. However, health authorities have acknowledged the situation is not expected to improve by the end of this month, and that the pandemic could continue for a number of months after that date.

These components are worth up to 50 per cent of marks for music, 40 per cent for Irish and 25 per cent for other languages. Mr McHugh said this was the fairest response that could be taken in the circumstances as “it guarantees that no student will score less than they would have if schools had been operating as normal”.

The move has sparked a mixed reaction from students who have been preparing for months in anticipation of the exams.

It would make complete sense, priorities the Leaving Certificate. I have twins scheduled to do their junior cert and their working away here

Would it not make more sense to redo the last year, and let all students school and college repeat the year? In effect postpone the incoming jr infants for a year.
