TD calls on Education Minister to ban all school trips abroad amid coronavirus outbreak

Independent TD Mattie McGrath has said that all school trips should be banned as the country continues to grapple with the coronavirus outbreak.

Mr McGrath said: “I believe the proportionate and responsible thing for the Department to do at this point is to recommend that all planned school trips abroad be cancelled until such time as this threat is under control both here and within the wider EU travel area. Minister for Health Simon Harris warned yesterday that "more restrictions", including school closures, will likely be needed to contain the coronavirus outbreak.McGrath added that clear guidance was needed on the issue to reassure concerned parents.
