'She is going so far as to seize the disability benefits that many borrowers with disabilities depend on to survive, all to collect on loans she knows they do not owe,' Student Defense Senior Counsel Alex Elson said.

Student loan representatives from seven states and Washington, D.C., sent a letter Tuesday to Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul asking them to erase the federal loans of more than 53,000 student borrowers with permanent disabilities in their jurisdictions.

The letter says those students have received notices that they may qualify to have their loans forgiven under"It is therefore critical that as Secretary you use your regulatory authority and access to borrower information to create the least onerous path to relief for this population, both as they apply for relief and to satisfy the monitoring requirements," the letter, signed by ombudspersons in Colorado, Illinois, Maine, Nevada, New York, Virginia, Washington, and the District of...

The ombudspersons say these borrowers have lifelong disabilities and are unable to work or they can't engage in substantial activities because of a physical or mental ailment that has lasted for five years or more. The law"is an important safeguard meant to ensure that any borrower who is unable, due to disability, to work and earn the income needed to repay his or her loan is released from the obligation to do so," the letter adds.was sent Tuesday to DeVos by the National Student Legal Defense Network, a nonprofit law firm, and a coalition of more than 30 other groups asking her to help the roughly 350,000 student borrowers with disabilities nationwide eligible for loan discharges.

Don’t get mad at BetsyDeVosED tho. She has a 4th yacht she needs to buy. Think about her for a moment.

It’s obvious that people once again are reacting to headlines and not reading the article. The last two paragraphs of the article are very interesting.

DUMP HER. Another Adolf trump trooper.Adolftrump

Why doesn't she use her own millions?

Just like the dumpster. Greedy.

No student loans should be forgiven. You borrowed, you pay, not other tax payers.

How about we drop the interest rate for all? What would that do for folks? How about the interest paid be a tax credit? Let’s talk about real solutions. And forgive those that are disabled.

It’s unlikey she trying to steal people’s money but FYI being disabled doesn’t dismiss people from having to pay back loans

What is it about this family? DeVos is trying her best to destroy our public education system and is dumb as a brick and her brother recruits spies to infiltrate political campaigns, not to mention his work with Blackwater. What evil are their siblings into?

She wants a death wish she will have so many haters after her

And the articles title specifically states STUDENT LOANS. XP ROL!

They shouldn't be able to automatically take SSI or SSD benefits. That's not a paycheck. How did they get the loans, go to college, and have to get social security. Were they of sound mind when they got the loans?
