The first game of the Division III men’s basketball championship tipped off at 2 p.m. Friday to an empty arena, after host school Johns Hopkins University opted to bar spectators from the game between Yeshiva University and Worcester Polytechnic Institute in an attempt to contain coronavirus.
The Baltimore-based hosts also barred spectators from another first-round game Friday evening, in which Johns Hopkins will play Penn State Harrisburg, and from the second-round game scheduled for Saturday.
