circumstances surrounding the sponsorship of students of public secondary schools for WAEC in which some of them staged a protest in Bauchi Metropolis.
“Students of three secondary schools which include Kofar Idi, Kofar Wambai and Ibrahim Bako were instigated by some teachers to stage a protest after the Ministry released the list of successful candidates for this year’s WAEC sponsorship. They accompanied the students to the Ministry of Education and Government House. They asked them to protest for the refund of the 800 naira they paid for offline registration.
“Higher institutions were to start admission, and we had to devise a means with the commissioner of Finance to look for an alternative source to pay half of what we owed these examination bodies so that they will release the results of our students. Upon payment of the money, they released the results and still, the state government owed them 286 million Naira. We have announced since November, that only those who pass MOCK will be sponsored as the law stated.
Responding, Hon Yunusa Ahmad, representing Warji Constituency told the Commissioner that there are a lot of complaints regarding some of his policies, pointing out that Governor Bala Mohammad organized ministerial briefings to know the problems of Bauchi State, but the commissioner has not made any attempt to organize a stakeholders meeting in order to receive guidance, rather he unilaterally uses former students of special schools to conduct the examinations without contacting stakeholders.
