Thousands of teachers are expect to go ahead with a planned rally outside Queen’s Park today, despite recent concessions from the government on increased class sizes and mandatory e-learning.

Members of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association and the Association of Franco-Ontarian Teachers are both holding province-wide strikes today while the Ontario Secondary Schools Teachers’ Federation will hold rotating strikes in nine boards, including the Toronto District School Board.

Lecce said earlier this week that the government would keep average high school class sizes at 23, which would be up slightly from last year’s average of 22 but would be a far cry from the province’s original proposal of 28. He also said that the government would let parents opt out of new e-learning courses that he previously said would be mandatory.

An estimated 15,000 people are expected to attend today’s rally at Queen’s Park, which is scheduled to begin at around 9:30 a.m.

But it’s for the kids right

it is so unfair that unions are able to put so many issues on the table.. new rules.. prioritize only 2 ..

NOTHING is confirmed. It was talk to the media. Nothing presented to the Union. Keep the pressure on 'Letch' !

Everyone realizes the education minister said these things in the media but still hasn’t come forth to the table and actually presented an offer to the teachers with these concessions. Government is just blowing smoke up people’s ass to get them on their side.

'Apparent'? - even your copy editor doubts it. 'Movement'? - it isn't movement when it should not have been done in the first place...22.5 and 23 are STILL bad faith.

Movement my ass. Government is blowing smoke up people's asses & their blind followers are believing the lies, as per normal

'Apparent' (see Actual) LOL Its4TheKids Honest 💲💰💲💰

Ford government backing down on class sizes, mandatory e-learning ahead of more teachers strikesOntario’s Progressive Conservative government is backing down on its controversial class size and mandatory e-learning policies, in an attempt to break the impasse with the province’s education unions. Backing down but not capping. It gives the option for boards to still add more students. Now what will become the “it’s not about the money” issues? Funny how they're backing down after the consultations were leaked to the public yesterday. But they still haven't answered the question around elearning; if they've already signed a contract from a US firm that would be too costly to break. Corrupt Cons are getting kickbacks!

Ford government backs down on high school class sizes, e-learning ahead of more teacher strikesOntario Education Minister Stephen Lecce announces the government is backing away from its controversial class size and mandatory e-learning policies, in an effort to restart talks with teachers' unions. Read more: onpoli This year coming up 20/21 what about after that? I’m 100% sure students who graduate with e-learning credits on their transcript can get any government job they want in the future as long as PCs are in power. That he's reassuring students and parents that class sizes won't be impacted means he's recognizing that his positions was panned by students and parents (and those who study effectiveness in education). Good - that's a start. onpoli

I'm An Ontario Teacher But I Chose To Go Where Teachers Are Respected'I’ve seen this drama play out over and over again in Ontario, and I decided I wasn’t going to be part of it.' HuffPostPersonal Gave up friends and family to teach overseas? Not everyone can or is willing to make those sacrifices for a job they can have here at home. Haha enjoy China. I hear they treat their people really well 🙄 The first part of this is reasonable concern over decaying behavior. Then it turns into the usual union greedy blather.
