Education Minister Dan Tehan has warned about the prolonged economic impact the coronavirus could have on the nation's university sector.

Mr Tehan warned on Sunday that unless there is a breakthrough in the next two-three weeks, the impact will directly be on Australian student numbers for the first semester.
