Education Minister Dan Tehan has disputed reports Australian universities will have their own quarantine facilities for Chinese students to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
"What we have to do is listen to and abide by the medical advice and that is what we're doing and that is what the university sector is doing," he told reporters at the University of Melbourne. Some universities have pushed the start of the semester back one week, while others are looking at offering online classes, Mr Tehan added.
The Australian National University in Canberra has about 5000 Chinese students enrolled for this year, although only 1000 were in Australia when the travel ban was put in place.
Hahah he said 'world class degree' yeah righto
Will NOT be quarantined? Not even 2weeks in their own accommodation?
Well that makes perfect sense! Nuffnuff
Part of the issue is that students can’t access materials online because of the firewalls in China... if educators here are making the information accessible perhaps China needs to temporarily block some sites to aid the students whilst they’re stuck in China?
Double standards
If you must, honour their visas when this global DISASTER is over. Crumbling under the pressure endangers the healthy of staff and students here. Stop jeopardising everyone’s health for the dollar. It just shows how corrupt this system actually is. Poor form. A real disgrace.
