com/fU0KSKRGfjMANILA - Student activists from the National Union of Students of the Philippines protested in front of the Commission on Higher Education to block the supposed application of private higher educational institutions for tuition increases next school year.
The CHED should exert its power over HEIs amid rising prices of commodities primarily caused by the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Act, NUSP President Raoul Manuel said.
The student activists also claimed that poor students are forced to study in private institutions due to lack of slots in state universities and colleges. “Fifty-five percent ng college students ay nasa private schools at hindi lang dahil yun ang kanilang personal choice pero dahil mismo sa mga SUCs [State Universities and Colleges] ay nagsa-suffer din sila sa kakulangan ng budget,” Manuel said.
