Senator Mitt Romney speaks to reporters upon arrival to the U.S. Capitol for the SenatePhoto by Mario Tama/Getty Images: Utah Senator Mitt Romney on Wednesday voted to convict President Donald Trump of abuse of power, making him the only Republican to break with the party on the impeachment vote, which ultimately ended in an acquittal., adding the president was “guilty of an appalling abuse of public trust.

In a speech on the Senate floor ahead of the vote, Romney emphasized his that his faith as a devout Mormon was an important factor in his decision, saying that he made a promise to God “to deliver impartial justice.” He said he believed the president abused his power by withholding military aid to pressure Ukraine into conducting investigations into the Bidens that would benefit him politically, and that Trump’s actions were “a flagrant assault on our electoral rights, our national security and our fundamental values.”

Romney said he was pressured by other Republicans to “fall in line with the team,” but he said his promise to God outweighed his personal and political considerations.

rachsandl I’m so happy Romney didn’t win in 2012. just for the record, this is more about Trump not selecting him to the Secretary of State position. Mitt wanted it, but Trump told insiders he couldn’t trust Romney. Turns out he was spot on.

rachsandl No asimila la derrota cuando corrió como candidato a la presidencia

rachsandl WELL GOOD TRY!!

rachsandl Mitt, where was your “religious conviction” in standing for full truth of the Clinton scandals, the Obama lies and scandals, the Benghazi tragedy? You lay still while Nancy and her posse waste valuable tax dollars on this witch hunt that began since Trump got in the race.

rachsandl Wherefore art thou, Republican?

rachsandl It’s clear his ego and hatred for the President is the only reason. I’d say it was nice knowing you Mitt, but it wasn’t.

rachsandl People forgot his hateful words towards the less fortunate?!

rachsandl He’s still mad DJT was actually elected as President and he couldn’t even pull the republican vote in 2012. Get over it, Mitt. When are you going to change parties? You might as well.

rachsandl How might I withdraw my 2012 vote?
