Premier Doug Ford says he blames teacher union leaders for the current standoff, and won't budge above a one per cent wage increase

Ford also vowed to not give in to the union's demands for a two per cent wage increase, which the government maintains is a key issue in the stalled bargaining negotiations with the province's public school teachers, who have been without a contract since August.

Ford's comment came on the same day as the union representing the province's elementary teachers give notice to hold its second day of rotating strikes on Tuesday, affecting four boards - Grand Erie, Trillium Lakelands, Renfrew, and Superior-Greenstone. “This is a tired old tactic from this premier to try to pretend there's a division between the membership and the leadership,” Harvey Bischof said. “I challenge him again, if he believes I'm not properly representing the wishes of the members, to exercise his right to have my members vote on their contract proposals.”“One parent I saw yesterday, said the teachers are holding us hostage,” he said.

Ford urged the union leaders to be “responsible,” adding that the labour disruptions were hurting the economy because many parents were not able to work.“We either stay stagnant and roll over, like the previous Liberal government did and give the unions whatever they want, or we be responsible and respect the taxpayer's money and be fair,” he said.

Teachers were outraged last year when the Ford government announced that average high school class sizes would increase and four e-learning courses would be mandatory for graduation. The government has since scaled back those plans, but union officials have said that it's not enough.

Someone has to stand up to them!!

Teachers say it’s not about the money, but once they get a raise the strikes over. Teacher fucked up the trades so they could get more work and they’re fucking over paid along with other government employees well the rest of the population gets no raise but we get to pay for it.

Hey it ass back to work

Seriously!!! The strike with teachers isn’t even about money. Get your head back in the game and open your eyes

Conservatives against unions? No way.

But what about the e-learning course. Are you saying you accept all their other demands and are only saying no to the rate increase? That is not what bonehead you have in charge is saying. So who is lying fordnation or fordnation LOL

Im gonna give the teachers a pay cut. But its the Unuons fault for not making the workers agree to it. For that, im gonna double down.

What do you what do you expect from an uneducated guy

You get what you vote for......

Can he perish please? His brother was much more loved than him, despite also being thick headed as well. God took the wrong Ford.

I don't think teachers need a pay raise, buton the other issues, I'll stand with them. Ford can roll back the 14% retroactive pay hike for his 28 Dep Ministers, and their ' pay-for-performance award' Plus the 20% increase in MPP's housing allowance can be reduced to 1%.

Good

Doug Ford looks like his mother caught him trying to make fries at 1am

joe_warmington These would be the same teachers and those past, investing millions in farmland all over our country.

Look how fat Doug is man he is a coronary away if he doesn’t lose weight.

doug ford is as an asshole. why would he value quality education? his own lack of it clearly didn’t define his position in life.

And exactly what wage increase did he and his cabinet receive !? Right a hell of a lot more !!

The teachers are not to blame smh

Why won’t you budge fordnation ? Why do teachers deserve less than the police or the firefighters? Seriously, I want to know?

Stand tall fordnation. If these scheduled walkouts were taking a bite of their pay... they'd reconsider.

Yet your staff gets 14% retroactively. These teachers are teaching our future. The next generations. They don’t get 5 months off like your staff. Twatwaffle.

Good for Doug. I say those that disagree with him should volunteer to pay the difference out of there own pockets. Keep your hands outta mine. The mouthpieces demanding Ford cave wouldn't put up a nickel.

joe_warmington Legislate these greedy spoiled brats back to work. Let's send these people a message that our childrdn are not going to be held hostage or used as pawns.

Guys riding ebikes with 6 packs of Laker dangling in plastic bags, shout in unison, “fuckin’ right man!! Dougie!!”

People who are supporting Ford really need an education!

Its not about the wages!

Will he budget on decreasing their pay raise of 11 percent to 1 % as well? I dont know why i even pay taxes anymore when politicians keep miss managing the people money... like really 48 million dollars a day to waste.... instead of using it progressively.

Stand strong fordnation... every day they strike you should lower it by 0.001%.

And he is 100% right and with that said you have no idea and how lucky you all are have a great Prem.Doug Ford in these times.

Who does he blame for all the cancelled contracts for green energy?

Who's the chick beside him?

1% increase is too much.

I support teachers 100%. Maybe it’s time to listen to what the teachers want fordnation! It’s time for you to go and take your minions with you

Good

It’s not about increasing their wages, it’s about increasing the payroll to accommodate re-hiring the teachers that were fired with the cut classes and increased class sizes!

chelseycreed 🖕

I fully support replacing everyone of these greedy teachers with ones that care about the kids not the pay

Ford is an enemy of education perhaps if when he was in school he paid more attention to his teachers instead of dealing drugs he would now appreciate educators and realize their value . Teachers2020

Teachers deal with a LOT. They deserve more.

Stand back! He's going to explode!

good for doug!! they should abolish that union and fire all the teachers. there's thousands of others that would gladly take their place. they should also base the teachers pay based on the performance of the actual instructor.

Nope

He really could not care less as he knows he will not be back for the next election. He wants to just destroy Ontario as much as he can now. He will be off to Chicago then.

If they eliminated e-learning requirements and set class sizes back to 22, I would wager that the union would be fine with the 1% being offered.

Government is never at fault, either. Right?

Duly elected. Like him.

Always the Union fault?

I just fail to understand WHY compensating our educators is so difficult for this man. It’s mind-blowingly numbing/painful to even comprehend that he’s blaming the teacher unions asking for 2% instead of 1% when the cost of living alone has grown exponentially.

And he's 100% correct

I say no to the e learning. Sounds to me like a slow way to cut out schools altogether. Kids need interaction. They dont need anymore internet. With how the world is going, kids are more stressed then ever. So it is crucial to have counselors and teachers aid for one on one time

Good, less school

Good. The teachers do fine at $90K per year for 9 months of work and 3 months of summer vacation. Those who can do those who can’t, teach.

What’s she 🤔 😂🤣
