It is “back to school” for Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as he is now the acting Education Minister.A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday said the Cabinet, during its meeting on Jan 8, agreed that Dr Mahathir be made the acting minister.
Several names have cropped up to fill up the post with Maszlee’s resignation, including the Prime Minister becoming the acting education minister until he finds a proper replacement from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia. Dr Mahathir and Maszlee are from Bersatu. Earlier this week, Dr Mahathir said the decision on who the new Education Minister will be would ultimately be his.Dr Mahathir had reportedly said there were “many reasons” Maszlee, who is a former International Islamic University Malaysia lecturer, was asked to step down.
