A school in a deprived area 'levels the playing field' by paying for private tutors.

But why couldn't the school provide the tuition itself? It would mean hiring another teacher, and apart from maths teachers being in short supply, it would be more expensive for the school.Stacey, a pupil who has been using the maths tutors, says she has"definitely made progress".

The purpose is to raise the achievement of disadvantaged pupils, but it is up to individual schools to decide how to use their allocation. It found that 27% of secondary school pupils had private tuition - but this rose to 34% in better-off households and 41% for pupils in London.Head teachers' leader Geoff Barton backed the use of pupil premium for private tuition, saying school leaders should make their own decisions about what made the biggest difference.

"However it is expensive to provide this additional level of support in schools and buying in a service could be a cost-effective method of supporting students in this way," said Mr Barton.

It’s not acceptable if school teaches properly their pupil why on earth needs private tuition it’s ridiculous it’s a business idea it’s not a good thing to adapt. This country’s education system is word class don’t mess it up .

This seems like a really sensible way to spend some of the pupil premium money and is no different to the intervention lots of schools out in place to help particularly disadvantaged pupils. Seems a strange news story to me.

A school like that will be welcome in New York.

The govt should be levelling the playing field by providing more teachers and smaller class sizes. Simple as that.

The schools will pass on the cost to parents in increased annual fees widening the gap between those who can and those who can't afford it. Thus reaffirming that meritocracy, on the whole, is fueled by money - lots of it. What chance do children of poor background have?

HACKNEY........ Is there any doubt the reason?
