Since the mural was painted at Burbank's Muir Middle School, Aung San Suu Kyi has undergone a political transformation that has stunned many supporters.

Burbank Unified school officials have removed a mural of Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi from a local campus, the action coming the same week that the Nobel Peace Prize laureate appeared at the International Court of Justice to denounce genocide charges levied against her country’s military.

Four years ago, Suu Kyi, whose official title is the state counselor of Myanmar, was one of 15 historical figures depicted in murals painted at Muir Middle School’s Hall of Heroes. “The murals are supposed to serve as examples of what our students can aspire to,” Muir principal Greg Miller said earlier this week.

Local artist Randall Williams included Suu Kyi among icons such as suffragette Susan B. Anthony, civil rights giant the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and naturalist and author John Muir, the school’s namesake.Since then, Muir Middle, a school that prides itself on artwork, has added five more murals, including baseball pioneer Jackie Robinson, scientist Albert Einstein and former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.

Since the mural was painted, Suu Kyi has undergone a political transformation that has stunned many supporters.

This is very sad — What happened to allow such an inspirational woman to transform into a genocidal-witness-&-doing-nothing-about-it leader? Oh shit! She joined the realDonaldTrump & Stephen Miller book club! “Art Of The Deal?” No! “Mein Kampf,” the WhiteHouse MAGA guide!

/2 Who said: Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely? Sometimes view from seat of P.M., where she is now in gov't. power structure, appears quite different to when one is fighting for democracy & freedom. Sad for Burma. They lost a strong voice for the free & brave!

Sure she's not target of manipulation & coerced control by her gov't? I'm not! If U.S. gov't/45 can do what they r doing in WH in a 'free' nation, imagine other countries' out of control/off the chain repression & dictatorial conduct. We r setting a horrible model for governance!

Don't paint murals, build statues, name buildings, etc., until the person has been dead for a few years. The living will always disappoint.

Objective: limit thought. My way or the highway left. Hopefully they will eventually think for themselves 🤞

Who are the “great leaders of Burbank”?

Sorry till you correct your Bernie butt hurt story I can't take La Times serious.

.. she seemed so nice...

I’m ok with this.

Such a decision shows that the school’s leadership is morally allergic to evil, but not critical enough to find a person best fit for their admiration.

Rubbish. This school is rubbish: first worshiping and after removing. Schools should stay out of politics.

SB_zom Indeed I do. And, our national media's (all the same)

She is cruel lady, did not utter a single word to condemn Buddhists massacring Muslims in Burma. Nobel Peace Prize for what? Cruel!

Bila Tabsara!WHA.Arifshah USA

Remember when she was a lefties wet dream

Her Nobel piece prize should be take back immediately.

Good! We shouldn’t have leaders who commit genocide anywhere except at a trial for crimes against humanity and prison.
